The UK is one of the most popular destinations for international studies.  In fact, studying in the UK is the number two choice for international students in the world, second only to the USA.  The UK offers international students an excellent higher education system and with hundreds of universities to choose from – it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular destination. Before you leave your home country/country of citizenship you should consider purchasing health insurance coverage for international students that will work for you in the UK.

Hi Carol,

The NHS is a free system, but primarily designed to cover UK Citizens. As a visitor to the UK, you would not be covered under the NHS, so you would need to purchase health/travel insurance coverage. If you are studying under a long term visa, typically you will have some coverage under the NHS, but you should check into that with your school first. You should also consider that travel insurance will offer added benefits such as the ability to see a private specialized, emergency reunion, evacuation and repatriation coverage – benefits the NHS does not provide.

My daughter ( from Bangladesh & holding Bangladeshi passport & valid UK student visa ) is under 20 years of age and started school at Central London since 15Sep 2012.
Her course is for approx. 11 months.
