How to choose the right insurance plan

Choosing the right international insurance plan can be a daunting task! For many, the insurance terms and wording that is used does not make much sense or you simply don't understand what something means. Don't worry, you are not the only one to have questions or want to find out information - and hopefully we can provide the right information in an easy to understand format.

Of course, you must always remember that our friendly staff are on hand to help you along the way - so whether you want to send an email, or give us a call we will do our best to help you out and get you the information you need.

When choosing coverage, first ask youself two very simple questions:

  1. For how long do I need coverage?
  2. What benefits and functionality will I need?

Once you have answered these two questions you are halfway there in working out which plans are right for you!

For how long will I need coverage?

The length of coverage you require will alter greatly the plans that you will need to look at. For example, if you will be travelling for just 6 weeks then that makes it simple as you will want to look at either the Atlas America (for non-US Citizens) or the Atlas International (for US Citizens).

If you are travelling for longer than this, then your options open up, and the following table summarizes the plans we offer:

Plan Name Length of Coverage
Atlas International 5 days up to 1 year
Atlas America 5 days up to 1 year
Student Secure Renewable as long as you are a student
International Citizens Long Term Coverage

What benefits and functionality will I need?

As you can see from the above table, if you are travelling for 6 months then there is some overlap with the plans that are available to you. So what you have to do now is to work out which plan will be more applicable for your situation. The best way to do this is to look at the main functionalities and benefits of the plans in order to compare the two. The following table summarises the main benefits of each of our plans:

Plan Name Benefits

Atlas International &

Atlas America

  • Short term coverage
  • Health and Travel Benefits
  • $50K to $2M in coverage
  • $0 to $2,500 deductible
  • NOT renewable
  • NO payment options
  • Optional Riders Available
  • Available outside of home country
Student Secure
  • Coverage as long as you are a student
  • Health and Travel Benefits
  • $250,000 or $300,000 in coverage
  • $50 to $100 deductible
  • Monthly Payment Options
  • Renewability Options
  • Available outside of home country
International Citizens
  • Long term coverage
  • Health Benefits
  • $1 Million or $5 Million in coverage
  • $250 to $5,000 deductible
  • Monthly Payment Options
  • Renewability Options

So to give you an example, if you were travelling for 6 months you would have the option of either the Atlas International, Atlas America, or Student Secure.
