H-1B Visa Insurance Plans
We offer a variety of great short-term insurance plans for H1-B visa holders. These plans are appropriate options for the initial part of your stay in the U.S., while you are still considered a “non-resident” alien for tax purposes.
They also work very well for the period you are waiting for coverage on your employer's plan, or for the time before you can purchase an ACA plan during open enrollment on the Marketplace. Below are the short-term, non-ACA options we offer for H1-B visa holders.
|Atlas Travel Plan||Patriot Travel Plan||Short Term Medical Plan|
|Coverage up to 364 days||Coverage renewable up to 2 years||Coverage available for 6 or 11 months|
|Up to $2 million in coverage||Up to $2 million in coverage||$1 million or $2 million in coverage|

Once an H1-B visa holder becomes a “resident alien” for tax purposes (generally 6-10 months after arrival in the U.S. or loss of student status), he or she then becomes obligated to maintain ACA coverage or pay a fine when filing a tax return.
Read our “H1-B Health Insurance Requirements” article for more information about appropriate insurance options for H1-B visa holders.
Note: If you are subject to the ACA and don't purchase appropriate coverage, you will likely face a fine on your taxes.
