Coronavirus Information and Advice

With the recent outbreak of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), we would like to provide you with information about what the signs and symptoms are, what you should do in case you think you have it, and what your health insurance plan will cover:

Signs and Symptoms

The key indicators that you may have the Coronavirus include:
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

The CDC believes that symptoms of COVID-19 may appear in as few as 2 days or as long as 14 days after exposure.

Seeking Treatment

If you are exhibiting any of the above signs or symptoms, the CDC recommends that you:
  • Stay at home and self-isolate
    • For mild symptoms, call your healthcare provider and inform them, but DO NOT visit their offices (to avoid spreading the disease).
    • If you feel worse, keep your healthcare provider informed and in an emergency make your way to the nearest emergency room or call 911.
  • Visiting your Doctor or Hospital
    • Call ahead and inform them you think you have COVID-19 and ask them what to do.
    • They will make preparations and direct you to the correct place.

Telemedicine

While the cost of the telemedicine consultation is usually included, please be aware that your normal benefits and exclusions will apply, please be sure to check your specific policy for your full terms, benefits, exclusions and limitations.

If you cannot get through to your medical provider, or do not have one, you can always use an online telemedicine provider. There are many to choose from and consultations typically start from $49 per session. During these consultations, they can also prescribe you medications if they are needed. While our insurance plans DO NOT directly cover the cost of these consultations, you can pay for them out of your own pocket, and then submit them to be reimbursed from our plans (excluding Liaison Travel and Liaison Student — Telemedicine expenses cannot be reimbursed on these plans).

Is Coronavirus Covered?

We sell a number of different international insurance plans, so please check below to see how the Coronavirus is handled with your specific insurance plan:

When the Coronavirus is excluded by a policy, all other benefits will still apply. So, any injuries or illnesses not related to the Coronavirus will still be covered.

Liaison Travel or Liaison Student

  • Covered the same as any other illness
    • Exceptions to this rule:
      • If your home state is Colorado, South Dakota or Maryland, there is no Coronavirus coverage

Atlas Travel or Student Secure

  • For policies starting before March 27th 2020:
    • Covered the same as any other illness
    • Exceptions to this rule:
      • Illness was contracted before the start of your insurance plan
  • For policies starting after March 27th 2020:
    • No coverage for Coronavirus

Patriot Travel or Student Health Advantage

  • For policies starting before March 11th 2020:
    • Covered the same as any other illness
    • Exceptions to this rule:
      • Illness was contracted before the start of your insurance plan
  • For policies starting after March 11th 2020:
    • No coverage for Coronavirus
